The Penguins was the first team to be conceived when the North Ayrshire Ice Hockey Club was formed in 2000. As the first level of competitive hockey it is a good measure of the health of any club, as the players within it will progress through the clubs various teams. In this respect it is encouraging to see the progress and development achieved by every player in the past season and look forward to the progress and achievement that will occur in the next.
The aim of any hockey team is to develop speed, agility, coordination, physical conditioning, puck control and team play. However this is only one side of the game the other is the development of emotional strength, confidence, self-determination, respect for others, a positive work ethic and willingness to push the boundaries of ability, but most of all it’s got to be fun.
Team Training times for this season are Wednesday 6.15 – 7.45pm
Welcome To The Penguins Season 2011/2012
This season will be my first season in charge of the 12′s team with help coming from Jamie Easton who worked alongside Stuart Gallacher last season. Ronnie Miller will have the unenviable task of being the team Manager. After struggling to find results in recent seasons and being short of players it was good news to secure the signings of Jordan Buesa and Ben Coughtrie from local rivals Kilmarnock at the start of the season. Jordan has previously played at GB level and with this experience has taken the role of captain for the forthcoming term. Assisting Jordan will be our new net minder for this season Brandon Rooney who previously played out and has only been practicing between the pipes since xmas and has shown great enthusiasm and talent in his new position.
Finally Mathew Miller will retain his assistants role from last season. We are still running a very tight team on experience and will be relying on 5 players from the Sabres team playing up to bolster the numbers and hopefully gain them some experience in playing league hockey before they have to make the step up through age.
