The Sabres team was formed in 2002 to provide a development team which would allow kids to develop their skills in a fun non-league environment. In the last 5 years the Club have had many players from the Sabres who have progressed through the ranks and achieved great success with some gaining international recognition
The U10s team is in many ways the most important within any club structure. It is where kids develop a passion for ice hockey and where they can master all the fundamental skills of ice hockey in a fun environment out with the pressures of league hockey. This passion and these skills once mastered will remain with these players throughout their playing career and provide a solid foundation on which to develop more complex skills and enable them to compete at every level.
Several players, in their last year with the Sabres, are given the opportunity to ‘train up’ with the Club’s U-12 team on a Wednesday night. On occasion throughout the season they may even get the chance to play with the 12’s when appropriate. This proves invaluable in giving them a taste of league hockey and getting to mix with their next season teammates. It also gives the coaches the opportunity to work with the players prior to next season which is beneficial to the transitional phase of their development into competitive hockey.
Training times for this season are Saturday 12.45 – 2.45pm
Welcome To The Sabres Season 2011/2012
This season see’s myself working alongside Jamie Easton in the coaching of the Sabres with Russell Sturrock carrying out the managers position again. The side has now been together for around 4 years and this experience should prove to be a valuable asset in playing as a team. We currently have a squad of 13 players and 2 goalies with Luca De Simone and Connor Park having being the newest additions to the team and looking to make their debuts soon. We also now have Oscar Gaunt playing in goal after deciding to give it a go this season alongside our longstanding net minder Callum Lymburn.
The captaincy again went to Lewis Young after doing a great job last season along with his assistant Jamie Sturrock and to help along in this department Finlay Anderson has taken the 2nd assistants position from Jamie Miller who has now moved up to the 12′s. This season will see many of the team making their last appearances for the Sabres before moving up to the Penguins and we are now training up players from the Ducks to take up the role that these current players have made a tough act to follow.
