North Ayrshire Ice Hockey Club’s future lies with the Rookies who train on a Saturday alongside the U-10’s. We currently have a very healthy group of beginners from ages 3-12 years. The coaching staff concentrate on teaching the basics of skating and stick handling whilst also developing their overall knowledge of how the game is played. The Club, in their foresight, have purchased a number of full ice-hockey kits to enable new starts to participate without parents having any excessive outlay on purchasing their own equipment.
This year has seen the final piece of our development structure put in place. The Club now offers beginners the opportunity to participate in our Learn to Play programme.
Any boy or girl interested in learning to play the fastest team sport in the world can contact the Club’s Rookie Coaching Co-ordinator on 07760 232019 to arrange a suitable time for a taster session.
After a few months the Learn to Play players are encouraged to register as Club Rookies where they will train alongside the U-10’s team without the pressure of having to play in all the games. However, this allows the U-10’s coach to bring up selected Rookies to guest for the U-10’s on occasion.
