Dundee Tiger V
North Ayrshire Wild
Sat 13th Feb 2010
The Wild travelled up country to hunt The Tigers of Dundee in the second
fixture of the season between thew teams.
Tigers looked to bite back after losing to The wild earlier in the season,
and bite they did catching a stunned Wild side with 3 goals inside 6 minutes
of play
This shocked the Wild into some action and they pulled a goal back at 8:03
as Ian Clark stuffed the puck past the Tiger netminder.
The home side took exception to the goal and countered just 21 seconds later
after the restart. Wild 1-4 down after 1st Period
Wild took the early play to the Tigers and reduced the lead to 2 at 22:33
when Murphy netted off the assist from Fulton again this fired up the home
side and another brace found their way into the Wild’s net. A disarrayed
Wild stole one back on the Power play at 32:20 as the Wild’s D men of
Gaughan and Guy combined to see Gaughan fire past a surprised Tiger
Netminder.
Tiger on home ice again pressed home their advantage with a further 2 goals
seeing out the 2nd period with a 8-3 lead.
Wild looked to regain some respect in the final period and came out looking
to play some physical hockey which paid dividends as the rattled Tigers took
a number of retaliation penalties. Although the Wild were unable to convert
on the subsequent power play opportunities. The home side took the only goal
of the period to seal the victory 9-3.
Wild will need to relight the fire as they travel south to Solway On the

Into the second period and it was Tigers who were
quicker off the mark when at 25.46 McLeod score to level the game at 2-2. Wild

and Tigers made them pay at 34.48 when the levelled the score at 3-3 from a

North Ayrshire Wild 4 Kilmarnock Storm 3
North Ayrshire Wild entertained Kilmarnock Storm on
Sunday night at the Magnum Leisure Centre in a National League game and came
away with a terrific 4-3 win against last seasons league champions. The game was
a fantastic advertisement for the sport of ice hockey with fast end to end
action. Wild were looking to overturn the two previous results when Storm ran
out winners in the Autumn cup games. Wild were missing 4 regular players who
were away with Scotland U17 training, but drafted in a few of the U20 Devils
players to fill the slots. Wild took the game to Storm from the first face off
and got off to a flyer when at 2.38 Martyn Guy skated into the offensive zone
and let go a screamer which hit the back of the net before Storm netminder
Bealing was able to react. Both teams were playing at a high pace with Wild
netminder Scott Blackwell managing to keep out the Storm. Wild’s first penalty
of the game came at 17.43 with Dean Peters in the box for holding, Wild managed
to keep the score line at 1-0 during Storms powerplay and finished the period
leading 1-0. Scott Blackwell turning away 10 shots in the period.
Into the second period, Wild
continued to put pressure on the Storm net but were finding the going tough to
get the puck past Bealing. At 26.16, Andrew Kennedy (hooking) and 27.10 Martyn
Guy (hooking) gave the Storm a 2 man advantage but great short hand defending by
the Wild managed to keep out the Storm. At 32.31 with Wild on the powerplay,
Michael McAllister skated down the left wing before firing the puck across the
from of the net which took a deflection off a Storm stick and found its way into
the net for a 2-0 lead. This was short lived and at 34.45 with Alan Gibson
rinthe penalty box on a holding penalty, Grant Jamieson managed to get the puck
past Scott Blackwell to pull one back. This completed the scoring in the period
with Wild holding a 2-1 lead.
The third period continued at
the fast pace with Wild being the quicker off the mark when Martyn Guy fired a
rocket past Bealing at 42.09 for a 3-1 lead. At 44.50, Wild forward Andrew
Kennedy was badly injured and had to be taken to hospital where he sustained
shoulder ligament damage which will see him missing for a few weeks. Special
mention must go to Storm player Wil Callison who helped to attend to Andrew
during the long stoppage in play. Wild seemed to be affected and were slow to
get back into their stride and it was Storm who pulled one back at 48.59 when a
shot by Underwood(short handed) found its was past Blackwell to pull it back to
3-2. Wild appeared to re gather the momentum and at 57.07 with Wild on the
powerplay. Alan Maitland broke away from the Wild defence and passed to
Graham Lester in front of net who fired high past Blackwell to level the score
at 3-3. With Storms Devlin picking up a delay of game penalty at 57.24, Wild
went onto the offensive and got just rewards 16 seconds later when from a James
Wallace pass, Colin Henning fired a rocket past Bealing from the blue line to
score the game winner for Wild. Storm tried to level the score during the last
couple of minutes including putting on the extra attacker, but failed to find a
way past Wild MOM Scott Blackwell with the Wild running out 4-3 winners at the
final hooter.
Martyn Guy 2+0, Michael McAllister 1+0, Colin Henning
1+0, James Wallace 0+1. Scott Blackwell 3 from 35 shots on goal.

Solway Sharks SNL - 0
North Ayrshire Wild entertained Solway Sharks SNL team on
Sunday night where they ran out 2-0 winners. This was Wild’s first home Scottish
National league game of the season and found the going hard against the Sharks
with the Sharks out shooting them 10 – 9 during the first period. Wild had to
make a couple of line changes with Ian Clark missing from the line up but
welcomed back Michael McAllister and Ross Jamieson who had missed the last few
weeks through injury and illness. The game was end to end with both teams
looking for the first goal but solid net minding from Scott Blackwell in the
Wild net kept the score 0-0 at the end of the first period.
In to the second period and the Wild stepped up the pace
with some good attacking plays that should have seen them take the lead early in
the second period but Carmicheal in Sharks net was keeping them out. Wild
finally scored the opening goal of the game when some good work pressurizing the
Sharks defence behind the net by Dean Peters, resulted in the puck being
slipped out to Aidan Fulton to rifle a shot into the net for a 1-0 lead at
35.55. Wild continued to pressure the Sharks but Carmicheal was keeping the
score line at 1-0 at the end of the second period. Wild out shooting Sharks 19-7
in the period.
Into the third period and with the Sharks beginning to look
tired, Wild continued to dominate the game, but it took until 50.33 before they
added to the score when Alan Gibson slipped the puck past the Sharks defenceman
to allow Dean Peters to fire high into the net for a 2-0 lead. Wild were
building in confidence and continued to look to add to the score line but Sharks
MOM Carmicheal kept them out. Wild out shot Sharks 12-5 in the final period. A
good performance from the team and a special mention to Wild MOM, netminder
Scott Blackwell who recorded his first shut out of the season, stopping 22 shot
throughout the game.
Wild’s next game is on Sunday night (29th Nov)
when they entertain local team Kilmarnock Storm at the Magnum Leisure Centre
with a 6pm face off. You can keep up to date with results, fixtures and match

Edinburgh Capitals SNL 5
North Ayrshire Wild 4
North Ayrshire Wild travelled to Edinburgh on Sunday night
to play there first Scottish National League game of the season. Wild took the
game to the hosts from the first face off and it was with no surprise that they
scored the first goal at 3.46 on the powerplay when a break out from their own
end involving Alan Gibson, Ian Clark resulted in a pass to Martyn Guys to fire
past McHattan for a 1-0 lead. The game was getting played at a fast pace with
both netminders keeping there teams in the match with some good net minding. It
took the Wild until 19.54 and again on the powerplay a breakout pass from Steven
Gaughan found Martyn Guy who skated in and picked up his own rebound to shoot
past McHattan to give the Wild a 2-0 lead at the end of the first.
Capitals came out fighting in the second period and pulled
one back at 33.13 from Marr when he shot past Scott Blackwell in the Wild net
before added to that at 35.34 with a Blake goal to level the score at the end of
the second. Wild had a number of chances in the period to score but fail to
convert any of them.
The third period opened with the Capitals taking the lead
at 40.52 with a McIntosh goal but the team spirit of the Wild allowed a fight
back and at 44.02 Martyn Guy with his third goal of the game levelled the score
at 3-3. The game was being played at both ends of the rink with both netminders,
more pressure was being put onto Scott Blackwell in the Wild net but he was
managing to contain the Capitals attack. At 49.17, Capitals re took the lead
when a shot by Fleming caught Scot Blackwell out with the puck landing in the
net. It took the Wild only 50 seconds to level the score when Wild man of the
match Martyn Guy scored from an Ian Clark pass to level at 4-4. Both team were
pressing for the winning gaol but a power play goal at 57.31 by Capitals Blake
sowed up the points for the Capitals. Wild didn’t give up but despite pulling
netminder Blackwell for an extra forward, they were unable to get the equalising
goal. A disappointing end to the game after a good start and with some better
finishing in front of goal would have seen a different result.
Stats – Martyn Guy 4 +0, Ian Clark 0+2, Alan Gibson 0+1,
Steven Gaughan 0+1. Scott Blackwell 35 shots on goal

Gallacher, 30.37 McKenzie from Melichercik and Gallacher again and 31.14

the Wild. Skarks only took 9 seconds to regain their advantage with Melichercik
scoring from Gallacher and McKenzie.

North Ayrshire Wild entered the senior ice hockey scene in
their inaugural season with a hectic start, having played Scottish Premier
league team Solway Sharks (away) and Kilmarnock Storm (home & away)in the West
Conference of this season’s Autumn Cup. Wild have signed a number of players
that have graduated from their own junior setup along with some that have had
previous senior league experience.
North Ayrshire Wild travelled last Saturday (12th)to
Dumfries to play a strong Sharks team, which included an import defenceman along
with several signings from Braehead Pirates. It was mostly one way traffic
towards Scott Blackwell in the Wild net and they held the Sharks to a 4 goal
lead at the end of the first. Sharks added another 2 before the halfway point in
the game before Wild changed net minder Scott Blackwell with Marc Galloway.
Wild had several opportunities to score but to no avail and Shark’s added
